Death Valley, California I The valley bed just before the lowest point in the valley is covered with these moon-like salt formations collected over the millenia. (Someone with a sick sense of humour named the place.) The temperature was +50C when this shot was taken. See a very similar shot taken when the temperature was -20C.

GOLDEN CANYON

Death Valley, California I A relatively short gorge which feeds into the main valley. The sandstone cliffs change from yellows to bright reds in close proximity here.

BADWATER

Badwater, California I The lowest point in North America, 282 feet below sea level, 52 degrees celsius. Legend has it that a surveyor was passing through and tried to get his donkey to drink from the spring. The donkey refused, and so Badwater was born.
